Rust never sleeps. While Gibson wrote Neuromancer on a manual typewriter, the Voyager Company has enabled me to read it on my Powerbook. A single floppy contains the entire trilogy: Neuromancer, Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive. Using the search function, I pretend to determine the prevalence of machine culture references in Gibson’s writings. Did you know that there are twelve references to rust in the first book, nineteen in the second, and a whopping twenty-six in the last? “Accelerated decrepitude,” as someone in Blade Runner once said.

Azon már minden cyberhead felülemelkedett a Neurománc első megjelenése óta, hogy Gibson mechanikus írógépen írta a regényt. Annyira, hogy az Anton Rauben Weiss menedzselte William Gibson aleph-ben még kép is van a Hermes 2000-ről.
Ami viszont érdekes, hogy a kilencvenes évek legelején létezett kereshető, digitális Gibson e-book. És ez a tény még akkor is érdekes marad, ha az ember utánaguglizik, és kiderül, hogy a Voyager Expanded Books sorozata már a sokadik volt a digitális kiadványaik sorában.
A felhasznált bleeding edge technológia: HyperCard, annyira klasszikus Mac OS, hogy még csak System Software 6-nak vagy System 7-nek nevezték, floppy, esetenként cd-rom. Mindenképpen szerezni kell ilyet.
